NBA Season Preview Series: The Brooklyn Nets

NBA Season Preview Series

The Brooklyn Nets

Off-Season Overview

Key Additions- Jeremy Lin, Anthony Benett, Grevies Vazquez, Luis Scola, Randy Foye,                                                Caris Levert (#20)

Key Losses- Thad Young (IND), Thomas Robinson (LAL)

Summer Standout- Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Sean Kilpatrick

First, I gave the Nets two summer standouts for two reasons. One, they need something to make them look good for this upcoming year and give their fans hope. Two, Sean Kilpatrick outplayed RHJ  in the summer but he won't make an impact on this roster this season like RHJ. However, both played well this summer, with Kilpatrick showing his ability as a scorer, and RHJ showing his growth as an all-around asset.

The Nets actually had a good off-season. Well in relative terms actually. They did the best they could without any assets or draft picks, due to the ever giving Celtics blockbuster in 2013. That trade continues to show the Nets how bad they fucked up and the Celtics will continue to benefit with at least two more top 5 picks. Anyway, the Nets were able to make their roster slightly better, which is a good thin since they can't tank when they should be for the second year in a row. So they added a group of solid veterans who will help their team in some way instead.

I also liked their draft pick in Caris Levert. He's a big guard (6'6) from Michigan who can shot, create and play defense, so he should translate to a solid rotation player eventually. Yes, it would be nice if they could of had their #3 pick... but they made a solid choice with what they had. Maybe they won't jeopardize the next 10 years of their franchise for post prime players again soon.

Analysis & Prediction

The Nets are not going to win many games this year. Even with added Veterans, the roster has minimal talent with zero depth. They are going to rely on Jeremy Lin and Brook Lopez to carry them offensively which could spark a return of Linsanity as the best case scenario for the city. They are not going to make the playoffs, and they will once again give the Celtics a lottery selection in the upcoming draft. They're going to be stuck in this position for at least a couple more years, with zero draft selections and little to offer free agents with a barebones roster and questionable front office.

One thing Nets fans can look forward to is the development in RHJ. He showed his versatility during the summer and if he can mimic that he should become THE bright young piece for this team to start to build with. He will never be a go to scorer, but he can be a versatile defensive wing, like an Andre Iguodala
